Interview by Robot Jones

Success in the music industry isn't always based on talent. Some talented artists never see the light of day because of market trends. But there are a few artists whose talents are too great to suppress. These artists just have “It.” You can't really define “It.” Is their look, their swag, their voice? Whatever “IT” is, 20 year old R&B sensation Vaneli has “It” in spades.

Since the release of our debut single “Loose Em” in 2006 the internet has being going nuts for these Brazilian born star. Her album “Hard to Believe” shows that Vaneli is more then a beautiful face and far from a one hit wonder. Hard to believe showcases Vaneli's ability to cross genres and why she's the “It”.

You have been involved with music since you were 5, what was your biggest influence?

I grew up listening to Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Toni Braxton. They are my inspirations as far style. They sing love songs, the kind of songs I sing and write. But Toni Braxton is definitely my all time favorite her deep range was somewhat similar to mine.

What's your favorite part about being a music artist?

I love performing live on stage, it feels good when people are there listening to my music. I also get to meet a lot of major artists and have had the opportunity to open for Bow Wow, Lloyd and Young Dro.

What was the biggest opportunity for you?

Having my label behind me all the way, they protect me and make me their top priority. Loyalty is everything in this industry.

Why did you decide to name your album "Hard To Believe"?

One of the tracks off my album is called ‘Fabulous'. The hook says "it's hard to believe where I'm coming from my life could be so fabulous". That's very true to me. I come from Brazil raised in Toronto moved to New York .  Having a dream of making singing a career has come true and for me is Hard to Believe.

What is your favorite song from your album and why?

My absolute favorite is ‘Loose'em' because it's an up tempo song with a unique flow. It's a fun party song and it takes me back down to that deep Toni Braxton Range that I love.

How much of your personal life do you put into your music?

I write from the heart from experiences that have happened in my life, past and present, they help inspire me.
